Michael Nilges studied theoretical physics in Munich, Germany and Bristol, UK. He obtained his PhD in chemistry at the Technical University in Munich. After postdoctoral studies at the NIH and at Yale university, he obtained a group leader position at the EMBL in Heidelberg. He is Professor at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, where he directs the structural bioinformatics unit is the chairman of the Department of Structural Biology and Chemistry. His centre of interest is the characterisation of protein 3D structure, dynamics and interaction by molecular modelling and experiment.
